Our Story

Since our inception as a small, home-based tutoring service named Desire2Read, Mind Over Learning has been defined and respected by our dedication to improving the lives of students with reading, writing, comprehension and math learning difficulties.

Inspiration for our small, humble beginnings came from a young boy, who had serious attention and self regulatory disorders, coupled with an extreme language learning disability. Astrid, his mother, was one of those rare personalities who did not accept there was no solution to teaching her son to read. That drive led to the creation of Desire2Read and later Mind Over Learning. Read more about Astrid’s story here.

We have researched, reformed and created a remediation process for students that resolves learning disabilities unlike anything available anywhere else.

We are long-term thinkers. Our goal is to form a legacy: making a tremendously positive impact on students today, leading them to self-fulfillment, and subsequently impacting the generations of tomorrow.

All our programs combine internationally recognized and researched techniques with individual neurological application and teaching approaches.

Reading & Spelling

Our modified Orton-Gillingham Reading & Spelling Program is built on a phonological sequential system that effectively builds reading fluency, accuracy, and enjoyment for learning.

This program focuses on the mastery of all foundational operations, facts, and skills required for conceptual understanding and success in mathematics.

Math Core Concepts

Discover critical grade 6-8 mathematic fundamentals through our individualized and structured systems designed to comfortably approach new or unfamiliar concepts essential for post-secondary life skills math.

Writing

We have assembled a comprehensive program for building understanding in both writing construct and skills, teaching fundamental principles, and creating sophisticated writing abilities.

Reading Comprehension

By breaking language into coherent and digestible parts, this program assists students in developing the integral skills necessary for reading comprehension.

School & Life Skills Course

This 8-week course introduces essential knowledge in executive functioning strategies, computer skills, internet safety, building social confidence, and more. The course is available at select times of the year.

Online and Home School Support

Looking for an alternative to the traditional educational setting? This program is the ideal solution for students who require a different setting to learn.

Summer Tutoring & Programs

Students can refine essential and fundamental skills through academic tutoring, or experience our interactive summer programs, specialized for kids with diverse needs and interests.
